Chip - great recount of the Pope's visit and the problems getting decent shots at such big events from the assigned location. Funny that you mention the security checks. These are a standard procedure, at least at the airports in Germany and for most "security relevant places" here. When traveling with my equipment, I plan for another ten to fifteen minutes just for the security checks. "Take a picture with the camera. Not me, please. (Ca-lack.) Ah. I see. - Turn on the laptop. - Remove the lens caps, I have to check each lens. - What is this? (Portable image storage.) - A-Ha. - Now we just have to wait for the colleague (with the result of the swipe)." Makes you feel like an A-list terrorist each and every time.
