Last week Brandy got some flack for wearing a Lanvin dress that resembled a plastic garbage bag to the Conde Nast Media Group’s Fifth Annual Fashion Rocks concert.  Though the dress didn’t come off particularly well, it was in keeping with a recent rash of rubbish-chic displays.  Nicole Richie picked a shiny, black, tulip skirt to wear to the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 09 show, though the fabric was slightly less derivative of a plastic sack and today Australian designers, One Fell Swoop, showed a dress that worked a similar “fresh-from-the-dumpster” vibe during the WA Designer Collections 1 & 2 show.  Click here to see even more trashtasticness.

Paris Hilton arrived at the grand opening of the Kim Vo Salon in Las Vegas, sportin’ a “B.M.” diamond ring—the initials of her new boyfriend, Benji Madden of the rock band Good Charlotte. Benji is brother to Joel Madden, lead singer of GC and baby daddy to Nicole Richie’s daughter, Harlow. Joel Madden and Nicole Richie looked happy and healthy at a press conference to launch the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation at the Los Angeles Free Clinic in Hollywood. The event deemed a “baby shower” gifted more than $200,000 worth of baby goods, including cribs, strollers and clothing to mothers in need. Nice to see this young couple making positive changes to the community in which they live.

No flats for this girl! Almost seven months pregnant, Nicole Richie played coy with photographers holding a pillow over her baby bump as she arrived at Sydney’s Kingsford-Smith Airport in Australia. Tagging along with boyfriend Joel Madden, lead singer of the pop-punk band Good Charlotte, Nicole has recently been playing ultimate bandmate following the group’s tour dates around the globe (in heels, no less!).

Nicole Richie served 82 minutes of her four-day sentence on Thursday due to jail overcrowding, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.  Richie arrived at the Lynwood Correctional facility, accompanied by her lawyer and boyfriend Joel Madden, the five-months pregnant Richie entered at 3:15 p.m. for booking. She was listed at 5′1″ and 105 lbs. She was processed into the system and released at 4:37 p.m. “Miss Richie was cooperative during the process… based on her sentence and federal court guidelines [she was released],” in a statement made by the sheriff’s statement department. Under the current sheriff’s policy, non-violent female offenders sentenced to 30 days or less are booked and released within 12 hours.  This sentence stems from December 2006 incident of driving under the influence of drugs. Nicole Richie pleaded guilty today to driving under the influence of drugs and was sentenced to about four days in jail and fined by a Court Commissioner Steven K. Lubell who said she was lucky nobody was killed when she drove the wrong way on a freeway. Wearing a loose-fitting Moschino black dress (possibly concealing a rumored pregnancy), oversized glasses, and hair conservatively pulled back, Richie showed up 10 minutes early for her 8:30 a.m hearing, arm-in-arm with her boyfriend, Joel Madden, who was also dressed in all black. Matching her somber outfit, Richie’s mood was described as serious but not emotional as she was sentenced to a plea agreement of jail time and a fine of $2,048 worked out between prosecutors and her lawyers. Richie will serve three years of probation and was warned that she would go to county jail for a year if she violated the terms of agreement.
