Nick and his brother Joe of The Jonas Brothers made a Jonas Brothers sandwich for one lucky fan at TRL studios yesterday. Everyone knows adolescents are capable of many things including being poltergeist magnets . They are also capable of focusing a tremendous amount of energy and imagination on an object of desire. You’ve seen the footage of The Beatles at Shea Stadium. Can you relate to these hysterical fans? I had a locket with Michael Nesmith ’s photo in the 6th grade, but that is as far as it went. Who is your teen obsession?

This week Kostrzyn, Poland hosted the three day International Woodstock Festival. By “Woodstock” they might have been referring to rock bands playing, muddy fields, water dancing, flirtation and “getting high”. 2008’s Woodstock festival (left/top) boasted more logos, fewer bare breasts, children and L.S.D. than the Woodstock festival that took place in New York state in 1969 (right/bottom), but the aim is essentially the same. The Polish version is cursed with a heavy dose of nostalgia, and if the vibe seems a little forced perhaps this is why. This millennium’s Woodstock has been taking place annually since 2004 and is Europe’s largest outdoor music festival. Americans may not have heard of it because most of the many bands who perform are from the European Union. Check out Woodstock #1 and Woodstock International here. Which one would you rather be at?

By now we’ve all heard about the scandalous, marriage wrecking, romance that Rolling Stone, Ron Wood embarked upon prior to entering rehab. Regardless of the damage done to Wood’s marriage, I think they make quite a cute couple with the assistance of a time machine. On the left we have Lolita, Ekaterina Ivanova, snapped yesterday at age 20 and to her right a laid back 30-something Ronnie Wood taken in the 1970’s. Ivanova, a Russian Cocktail waitress living in London, declared her continuing love for the 61 year old Rocker undergoing treatment for alcoholism. While Daisy Wright, the Nanny blamed for breaking the engagement between Jude Law and Sienna Miller, quickly faded from our memories, I think that the stylish Ekaterina Ivanova has staying power. Will this May-December relationship survive Wood’s sobriety? Will Ekaterina Ivanova stay in the spotlight without the help of scandal?

Thursday night Amy Winehouse took over the London night spot, Camden Monarch to debut her club night: Snakehips At The Monarch. Records that have inspired the beehived spectacle were spun in a “DJ battle” opposing Winehouse against DJ Bioux. Who can play the best Sleaze, Garage and Exotica tracks? Who’s keeping score? In any case there isn’t much room to get down, as hoard of camera toting fans monopolized the dance-floor, waiting for the night to unravel.

After a protracted period of Mariah Carey and Madonna chart-hopping, pseudo-indie emo-boy rock and radio-friendly 90s-throwbacks have taken over. The current numero uno on the Billboard 200 is the new effort from 3 Doors Down, which is self-titled. Last week Death Cab for Cutie topped the chart with their new album “Narrow Stairs”. I hope you are weeping while you read this, the gentle vocal strummings of Ben Gibbard filling your headphones with saccharine goodness.

Students at Cambridge University are studying a song by Amy Winehouse. ” Love Is A Loosing Game” from her album ‘Back to Black’ is being studied as poetry for an English literature class.
The lyrics for the Amy Winehouse song include:
For you I was a flame/Love is a losing game/Five storey fire as you came/Love is a losing game/Why do I wish I never played/Oh, what a mess we made/And now the final frame/Love is a losing game/Played out by the band love is a losing hand.”

…DAVID COOK! Last night David Cook became the next American Idol, winning by over 12 million votes. Comments made by the judges the night before clearly favored David Archuleta and based on those comments Cook’s win has been labeled an upset, however instead it should be called a landslide. One Republic made a guest appearance, performing their hit song “Apologize” with David Archuelta, however before the big announcement was made judge Simon Cowell was the one apologizing. He said that after going home Tuesday night and reviewing the show, “it wasn’t quite as clear cut as we had called it” and he thought he was “verging on disrespectful” with his comments to Cook the night before. Cowell concluded that for the first time he didn’t care who won and thought they had both done a terrific job. But America did care and in a very clear cut victory David Cook won with over 60 million votes (5 of which I can personally take credit for). Congratulations David, we’ll see you in concert! I’ll be the one holding the sign “David Cook is Off the Hook!!” or something equally catchy.

Last week America narrowed their Idol picks down from three to two, making it the predictable battle of David squared. David Archuleta (pictured above), 17 yr old pop singer from Murray, UT and David Cook (pictured below), 25 yr old rocker from Blue Springs, MO have been the contestants to beat throughout the season. Last Tuesday their popularity was confirmed. Be sure to watch the two part finale beginning tonight 8/7c and ending tomorrow night 9/8c. Here are a few links of past performances to help you catch up in case you fell a little behind this season. Don’t forget to vote!

Syesha is performing in the top three tonight of American Idol. Sandwiched between the two Davids, Syesha has held on and is the last girl remaining. But it wasn’t an easy road getting here for this young lady, who found herself in the bottom two week after week. She has been recently called the “dark horse” of this competition, however this underdog label by the judges seems to be compensation for dismissing her early on. Continually giving her backhanded compliments they seemed to be grading her on a curve. Last week she sang Tina Turner’s Proud Mary and while once again getting inconsistent remarks from the judges, I thought she fit the part perfectly. Working her Beyonce whiplash moves and her Tina Turner sass she fits right in. Doesn’t she look like a star? Well she sounds like one too. While I don’t always vote for her (I have to admit, often my votes go to David Cook or are at least split between the two of them) I do think she should get the credit she deserves. Congrats Syesha!

This is the way ALL artists should handle their music. Following the formula of Radiohead, Trent Reznor has decided to give his fans a whole new album for free. Fans can go to nin.com and download the NIN album “The Slip” in a variety of formats from low quality MP3 for your iPod (87 mb file) right through to top quality wav files (1.2 gb file). And you can share them with friends - when you sign in to download the album, you are also invited to send the album to three friends.
At his website, Reznor said, “Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years — this one’s on me.”
