La Isla Bonita is one of my favourite songs by Madonna but this was such a different rendition. I could sense she was enjoying it, so when she smiled and pulled this funny face for just a split second, I was lucky enough capture all of those elements in the frame. I have photographed her on stage about five times before and Live Earth was by far the best performance yet.

The main part of the stage stretched right out into the crowd. Madonna was the last act to perform that day and I knew this was where I would get my shot. As she made her way down the stage, the crowd was going crazy and after nine hours of standing they still had so much energy.
