Kanye West appeared on BET’s 106 and Park with a lot to say about his much publicized spat with MTV and their 2007 Video Music Awards. “It was always my dream to open the award shows with ‘Stronger’, and [MTV] talked me into doing the suite thing…Then when they had Britney [Spears] open, I said, ‘How are you going to have Britney open? Because she’s not ready,’” West said of Spears’ critically –panned opening performance.” West has stated that he took issue with the way the VMA performances were set up – that he should have performed on the main stage and not from a private suite where many artists performed for small groups of fans throughout the telecast.

Melanie Brown, aka “Scary Spice” of The Spice Girls and her lawyer Gloria Allred, addressed ongoing paternity issues with Eddie Murphy during a press conference this afternoon. Allred, claims that Murphy “has not paid one penny of child support” for the former couple’s daughter, said she plans to ask the court to award child support and “to decide what is reasonable.” Brown elaborated telling reporters, “I am here for one reason and one reason only – her name is Angel. Angel is my baby and Eddie’s. She will always know that she was planned and wanted by both of us, but I want her to know that she has two parents who desire to be responsible for her during her life and who love her so much that they want to be a part of it.”

Hotel heiress, reality TV star, and pop culture phenomenon Paris Hilton arrived with a somber look and conservative suit to match at the Metropolitan Branch Courthouse in Los Angeles, California. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer sentenced Hilton to spend 45 days in jail for violating the terms of her probation for alcohol-related reckless driving. Hilton’s driving privileges were suspended after she was pulled over for driving without headlights on February 27, 2007. “[Hilton] disregarded everything … and didn’t care and kept driving,” said Sauer.  Her attorney, Howard Weitzman, countered stating, “I’m shocked and disappointed at the sentence by the judge. To sentence Paris Hilton to jail is uncalled for, inappropriate and ludicrous. She was singled out for who she is. She’s been selectively targeted. Paris was honest in her testimony.
