In this handout image provided by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dept., actress Heather Locklear poses for a mugshot September 28, 2008 in Santa Barbara, California. Locklear was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance in the Santa Barbara area, authorities said Sunday.  While people love to rip on how bad celebrities look when they have fallen from grace into say a holding cell at the County Sheriff’s office, I think Heather looks great.  Scared, but very well preserved.  Without makeup she has remained virtually unchanged since 1996 when she starred in Shattered Mind (right).  Locklear is an effervescent, quintessential California girl who has managed to stay afloat as a sex symbol and legitimately engaging actress in an industry that doesn’t easily forgive aging.  She has dated an interesting mix of men throughout her career and she probably has many stories to tell, and perhaps this is the time to do it.  See Heather from starlet to star here.

Actor and New Kid On The Block, Donnie Wahlberg celebrated his 39th birthday at Jet Nightclub At The Mirage in Las Vegas on August 16th. Just days prior to his pyrotechnic birthday party, he and his wife of nine years, Kim Fey each filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. The newly reformed New Kids On The Block embark on an international tour in the fall.  It will probably be a fun one for Donnie.

Was Pellicano’s Self-Defense A Good Idea?

Uh. No.

Disgraced ‘Hollywood P.I.’ Anthony Pellicano got shafted in a big way by the jury in his long battle against criminal charges for unscrupulous methods in his shady celebrity P.I. business. Pellicano was found guilty of 76 of the 77 racketeering, wiretapping, and conspiracy charges brought against him. Though he won’t be sentenced until September 24, he could face a 20 year sentence from one racketeering charge alone. It took the judge over an hour to read the verdict.

Many legal professionals, most forcibly in the New York Times piece about the verdict, have noted how anticlimactic the end of this massive case really is. The prosecution never really attempted to go above Pellicano and try to implicate his clients - all of whom have strongly asserted that they ‘had no idea’ Pellicano was using such tactics. Yeah, it must have been his charm and wit that sent Hollywood’s elite straight to his slimy doorstep…

Britney Spears arrived and abruptly left the Los Angeles County Superior courthouse for a hearing regarding visitation rights for her two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline. (Federline has primary physical custody of the children after a four-hour standoff with police resulting in both Spears and her youngest child, Jayden James, being hospitalized last week.) Reasoning for her hasty exit has varied from frustration with the amount of press covering her hearing to not wanting to testify. Do you think Brit will regain custody of her children? Discuss.

Kiefer Sutherland received a nice celebrity X-Mas present from a Los Angeles judge - he gets to serve time for his DUI in a private jail! Paris Hilton wasn’t given the same treatment…what a shame. Sutherland is required to serve 48 days in the Glendale City Jail, spend 5 years on probation, and take alcohol education classes for 18 months in addition to therapy sessions for 6 months. Will this stop production on the right wing’s favorite show, 24? Oh wait, there’s already that Writer’s Strike thing going on…

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline went back to court for their ongoing custody battle for their two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James Federline. The exes arrived separately at court amid a media firestorm this morning, remaining silent to reporters and photographers while they entered the courtroom followed by their respective legal teams. The silence continued within the courtroom between the former couple, except when addressed by the judge. Currently, Federline retains physical custody of their two sons, Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1; Spears has monitored visitation rights and one overnight visit per week. Most legal experts concur that this courtroom battle will continue for months. Stay tuned to gettyimages.com for the ongoing developments with the case.

Kiefer Sutherland, last seen here accepting ACTRA Award of Excellence award at the residence of the Canadian Consulate General in Los Angeles, the day after his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence early morning, September 25, 2007, in Hollywood. According to various reports, around 1 a.m., Sutherland, made an illegal U-turn when officers pulled him over, the 24 actor subsequently failed a field sobriety test. He was booked at the LAPD Hollywood station and was released at 5:42 a.m. on $25,000 bail. A court date for Oct. 16 has been set for Sutherland to appear regarding these charges. Because the actor was previously convicted of DUI in 2004, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of four days in jail if convicted for his most recent arrest.

Sutherland is also currently serving a five-year probation term for the prior DUI. In 1989, he was arrested for DUI and carrying a concealed and loaded weapon. In a deal with prosecutors, he pleaded no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving, and the other charges were dropped.

In 1993, he was arrested for DUI, pleaded no contest for the second time to alcohol-related reckless driving. He was given the option of serving 12 days in jail or performing 211 hours of community service, choosing the latter. Before being stopped by police on Tuesday morning, Sutherland attended the FOX Fall Eco-Casino party at Area nightclub where he was photographed on the red carpet by Getty Images.

Rest In Peace: Brooke Astor

Socialite Brooke Astor, The Park Avenue doyenne of philanthropy, died earlier this week at age 105 of pneumonia. Recently, there has been turmoil in Astor’s inner circle regarding her living conditions and alleged neglect by her son, Anthony D. Marshall. Astor’s friend Annette de la Renta, wife of designer Oscar de la Renta, was appointed by courts to care for Astor in her final years along with JPMorgan Chase & Company to handle her finances. Her court-appointed guardians filed legal papers saying that the will she signed in 1997 should be the valid one. They argue that she was not mentally competent and was unduly influenced by Marshall when she signed her last will in 2002. Astor’s estate is worth $130 million, in addition to a trust valued at $60 million, left by Astor’s late husband, Vincent Astor. The ugly battle is now going to be duked out in court by her son and Astor’s appointed camp. Martha Stewart, , Whoopi Goldberg, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, Nancy Reagan and former President George Bush and his wife, Barbara are expected to attend her funeral services. Let’s hope the grand dame of society will find peace in her final resting place.

Nicole Richie pleaded guilty today to driving under the influence of drugs and was sentenced to about four days in jail and fined by a Court Commissioner Steven K. Lubell who said she was lucky nobody was killed when she drove the wrong way on a freeway. Wearing a loose-fitting Moschino black dress (possibly concealing a rumored pregnancy), oversized glasses, and hair conservatively pulled back, Richie showed up 10 minutes early for her 8:30 a.m hearing, arm-in-arm with her boyfriend, Joel Madden, who was also dressed in all black. Matching her somber outfit, Richie’s mood was described as serious but not emotional as she was sentenced to a plea agreement of jail time and a fine of $2,048 worked out between prosecutors and her lawyers. Richie will serve three years of probation and was warned that she would go to county jail for a year if she violated the terms of agreement. Stay tuned to gettyimages.com to see how Richie’s ongoing legal battles unfold.
