In this handout image provided by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dept., actress Heather Locklear poses for a mugshot September 28, 2008 in Santa Barbara, California. Locklear was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance in the Santa Barbara area, authorities said Sunday.  While people love to rip on how bad celebrities look when they have fallen from grace into say a holding cell at the County Sheriff’s office, I think Heather looks great.  Scared, but very well preserved.  Without makeup she has remained virtually unchanged since 1996 when she starred in Shattered Mind (right).  Locklear is an effervescent, quintessential California girl who has managed to stay afloat as a sex symbol and legitimately engaging actress in an industry that doesn’t easily forgive aging.  She has dated an interesting mix of men throughout her career and she probably has many stories to tell, and perhaps this is the time to do it.  See Heather from starlet to star here.

Toronto International Film Festival: Stripped Down

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Today is day seven of The Toronto International Film Festival and the Oscar buzz that traditionally begins in Yorkville has already rung in the Acedemy’s ears.  The mania around anticipating Oscar success is said to have died down this year, which may make lend a certain degree of purity to the viewing experience.  Regardless of a percieved downgrade in hype, the festival is teeming with celebrities, and a few of them stopped by the Getty Images Studio for a portrait.  See our favorites here.

Hyped films include The Wrestler, starring Mickey Rourke and Evan Rachel-Wood, Rachel Getting Married  by Jonathan Demme starring Anne Hathaway, The Secret Life of Bees with Dakota Fanning (so grown up!) and The Duchess starring Kiera Knightly.

One documentary in the schedule, Paris, Not France, caused a little bit of cheap commotion when Paris Hilton’s people pressured the festival into reducing the number of screenings of the film.   Adria Petty (daughter of Tom Petty) made the low budget film chronicling the life and times of Paris Hilton in 2006 and while the commotion surrounding the screening indicated that there is unflattering dirt to be dished, it may have simply been a publicity maneuver.

May - December Scandal, A Starlet Is Born?

By now we’ve all heard about the scandalous, marriage wrecking, romance that Rolling Stone, Ron Wood embarked upon prior to entering rehab. Regardless of the damage done to Wood’s marriage, I think they make quite a cute couple with the assistance of a time machine. On the left we have Lolita, Ekaterina Ivanova, snapped yesterday at age 20 and to her right a laid back 30-something Ronnie Wood taken in the 1970’s. Ivanova, a Russian Cocktail waitress living in London, declared her continuing love for the 61 year old Rocker undergoing treatment for alcoholism. While Daisy Wright, the Nanny blamed for breaking the engagement between Jude Law and Sienna Miller, quickly faded from our memories, I think that the stylish Ekaterina Ivanova has staying power. Will this May-December relationship survive Wood’s sobriety? Will Ekaterina Ivanova stay in the spotlight without the help of scandal?

Was Pellicano’s Self-Defense A Good Idea?

Uh. No.

Disgraced ‘Hollywood P.I.’ Anthony Pellicano got shafted in a big way by the jury in his long battle against criminal charges for unscrupulous methods in his shady celebrity P.I. business. Pellicano was found guilty of 76 of the 77 racketeering, wiretapping, and conspiracy charges brought against him. Though he won’t be sentenced until September 24, he could face a 20 year sentence from one racketeering charge alone. It took the judge over an hour to read the verdict.

Many legal professionals, most forcibly in the New York Times piece about the verdict, have noted how anticlimactic the end of this massive case really is. The prosecution never really attempted to go above Pellicano and try to implicate his clients - all of whom have strongly asserted that they ‘had no idea’ Pellicano was using such tactics. Yeah, it must have been his charm and wit that sent Hollywood’s elite straight to his slimy doorstep…

What marital problems? After a strongly worded denial , Madonna and Guy Ritchie arrived looking like the picture perfect couple at Harry’s in London. Madonna’s rep, Liz Rosenberg, has denied reports that the pop star’s marriage is on the rocks. “I am delighted to confirm that Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ritchie remain happily married,” her longtime publicist said. Rumors of a split surfaced after Ritchie attended neither of Madonna’s recent A-list outings including her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and her United Nations fundraiser. Rosenberg explained that, until recently, Madonna and Ritchie were living in separate countries while they completed projects. Would you like to see Madonna and Guy out and about more? Discuss!

While Ryan Seacrest was interviewing Jennifer Garner on the red-carpet at the 80th Annual Academy Awards in Hollywood, Seacrest was abruptly interrupted by everyone’s favorite zany actor, Gary Busey. Busey, best known for his Best Actor Oscar (The Buddy Holly Story, 1978) and his short-lived Comedy Central show, I’m With Busey, hugged a terrified Garner and planted a kiss on her neck. Busey told People.com, “It’s about having fun.” What do you think of Busey’s bold moves: brash or benevolent? Discuss!

After a second hospitalization in less than a month, Brit is on 72-hour emergency hold, known as a 5150. It has been reported that her current therapist called authorities after she refused to take prescribed medication and not sleeping for several days, thus causing her to potentially be a danger to herself and others. We here at the Getty Images Blog are elated that Britney is finally getting the help she seems to so desperately need. Even if Britney leaves the industry, we wish her health, happiness, and serenity in 2008.

“Not only are these animals being cruelly slaughtered, the meat is contaminated by huge levels of mercury,” said Hayden Panettiere to a politically influential Washington D.C. crowd and The Washington Post’s Reliable Source column regarding her favorite pet cause (no pun intended), the explosion of whale hunting worldwide. Last fall, a viral video of Panettiere confronting Japanese fisherman lead to a warrant for her arrest near the town of Taiji but that is not stopping Hayden—a spokesperson for the Save the Whales Again!—from taking her message on the road to the embassies of Iceland, Norway and Japan. Do you think celebrities have a place in political activism? Discuss.
