Today, actress Anna Karina attended a Master Class during the 13th Pusan International Film Festival at Grand Hotel in Busan, South Korea. The biggest film festival in Asia showcases 315 films from 60 countries.

Then, in 1969, Karina was on set shooting Justine, directed by George Cukor and Joseph Strick and she had been divorced from director Jean-Luc Godard for two years.  This seven year romance was accompanied by her participation in at least six of his films, including Une femme est une femme and Pierrot le fou.   Karina had a unenviable childhood, traded by grandparents, foster parents and her mother.  She started her career as an actress and singer in her native Denmark, later moving to Paris at 17 where she befriended Coco Chanel and Pierre Cardin and began modeling.  Karina has always had a bewitching presence on screen and anyone who relishes the modish styles of the mid to late 1960’s will appreciate the bohemian tinged glamour Karina embraces.  Let her filmography guide your vintage inspiration this weekend.  Let her photos take you back now.

Christina Aguilera arrived at the Esquire House Hollywood Hills’ “Rock The Vote” event looking fantastically unreal in blunt bangs, dramatic eyeliner and neon fuschia lipstick. We’ve seen Xtina try on many looks over the years and I thought she had really she’d really hit her stride with the 40’s/50’s sex kitten look of mid 2007, but she does the 80’s inspired rave look well. What do you think?  Too much or good fun?

Rumer Willis attended the 6th Annual Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on September 18, 2008 in Los Angeles, California as a redhead. Willis has tried on a few hues in the natural hair color rainbow since she has emerged from beneath her mother’s shadow in 2005. The actress was named in People’s list of the World’s most Beautiful People in April, but on Tuesday Perez Hilton described her as “ugly on the inside” during an interview on The Howard Stern Show. Which color suits Rumer best?

Baby Blond Or Geriatric Grey?

Actress Monet Mazur shined brightly with an asymmetrical french braid wrapped around her bronzed face at  Cipriani’s on Tuesday in New York City.  She was there for the New Yorkers for Children Gala.  Her platinum locks give her a Swiss Miss innocence, but I did a double take thinking the color was a geriatric white.  She wore a similar hairstyle in January (right) with a darker hair color to less dramatic effect.  What do you think?  Is the platinum a keeper?

One Girl’s Trashbag Is Another Girl’s Treasure

Last week Brandy got some flack for wearing a Lanvin dress that resembled a plastic garbage bag to the Conde Nast Media Group’s Fifth Annual Fashion Rocks concert.  Though the dress didn’t come off particularly well, it was in keeping with a recent rash of rubbish-chic displays.  Nicole Richie picked a shiny, black, tulip skirt to wear to the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 09 show, though the fabric was slightly less derivative of a plastic sack and today Australian designers, One Fell Swoop, showed a dress that worked a similar “fresh-from-the-dumpster” vibe during the WA Designer Collections 1 & 2 show.  Click here to see even more trashtasticness.

Snips Heard Around The World

Victoria Beckham attended the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer ‘09 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York with her newly pixied hair.  Mia Farrow made a scene when her long blond hair was shorn by Vidal Sassoon for Rosemary’s Baby in 1968.  The haircut defined Farrow and proved to be an influential hair move.    Michelle Williams, Mena Suvari, Demi Moore, Natalie Portman and Erykah Badu have all undergone drastic crops, whether it was called for by a movie role or the desire for a drastic change.  Check out this lightbox of these actresses before and after their big chop.  Over the past few years, Ms. Posh has been going progressively shorter and the masses have followed.  Will the gamine haircut catch on?

But She’s Such A Lovely Young Lady

Jena Malone attended the Los Angeles premiere for Tropic Thunder on Monday night dressed in a characteristically jarring ensemble of a black mini t-shirt dress, cinched with what appears to be a vintage leather enamel belt, and completed with a pair of short combat boots. Malone has been cultivating indie queen stature with roles in The Go Getter, Into The Wild and Donnie Darko. Her red carpet persona and aesthetic reflects her quirky brand of beauty. She is not unlike Chloe Sevigny or Samantha Morton in her approach to dressing; Interesting, eclectic, polarizing and often unflattering. Malone appears to be searching for her personal style as her hair color and cuts have run the gamut. About last nights outfit? I can hear moms everywhere saying: “Why is she doing this? Her hair is too short! And those boots? But she’s such a lovely young lady.” Check out other looks Jena has tried on. Which one wins?

Hudson : A Natural Woman

Singer/actress, Jennifer Hudson was spotted en route to the taping of her appearance on BET’s 106 & Park at BET Studios in Manhattan yesterday. It’s refreshing to see Ms. Hudson in a colorful, casual and youthful outfit after watching her at fancy events in stuffy formal gowns or blandly feminine dresses. It’s great to project a sophisticated and lady-like image, but those of us who became acquainted with Hudson via American Idol, know her to be a playful and original dresser with an edge. She looks great in safe ensembles at premieres and award ceremonies, but where is that flash of risk that set her apart on American Idol? Another floor-length dress with a plunging neckline?

Every girl starts dressing like a woman at some point, but it’s as though Jennifer went from dressing like a 24 year old to a 40 year old within four years. Granted, she rose to stardom at a ridiculously fast rate and what better way to fit in than by dressing accordingly, but I feel as though she hasn’t been true to herself. Hudson seems comfortable in her own skin here. Did her stylist take a day off?  What do you like better: sassy or sophisticated?

I know! Sometimes it’s hard not to look. Susan Sarandon is in fine form at the screening of The Life Before Her Eyes hosted by The Cinema Society and Nicole Miller at The IFC Center, accompanied by her family (son, Miles Robbins at right). 30 years after the photo on the right was taken, Sarandon looks amazing in a plunging neckline.

It ain’t easy looking good! Sarah Jessica Parker got the works done on location for Annie Leibowitz’s shoot for Vogue to promote Sex and The City: The Movie in Brooklyn. One question remains: How on earth did they get a blow dryer in the middle of the lake? Discuss!
