Here, accessories are the great equalizer, it seems. They can almost transform Katie Holmes on the street in New York this weekend into Jackie Kennedy-Onassis when over-sized sunglasses are paired with a headscarf. Zoe Kravitz at the Chanel show in Paris last week echoes Bianca Jagger with the help of a beret and shades. Recipe to convert Jane Doe into “suspected starlet”?  Combining the ultimate trio of sunglasses, headscarf and trench coat.  What is your accessory secret weapon?

Hathaway Charms In Italy

Anne Hathaway attended the ‘Rachel Getting Married’ film premiere during the 65th Venice Film Festival on Wednesday. The actress hit a rough spot earlier this year but last night she glided across the red carpet looking graceful and swan-like in a cascading grey - aqua gown and simple gold accessories. One can imagine the mixed emotions she might have experienced spending time on the soil upon which her controversial beau, Raffaello Follieri was raised. Perhaps her nervous energy can be spied at the premiere. She snugged up to director Jonathan Demme, corralled her ruffles, spazzed out in her seat, and obliged fans with photos. See Anne be a good sport.

Sarah Silverman Shopped At My Table

Sarah Silverman pawed a pair of earrings at a SoHo, New York street vendor’s table on Tuesday afternoon. One wonders if the down to earth comedian was identified as an international celebrity by the vendor. I bet the next time you pass the booth you’ll see a sign that says: “Sarah Silverman shops here”.  Do you shop “on the street”?

Shoes: High Beam Vs. Invisible

All of the girls who showed up to the premiere of The House Bunny in New York City on Monday looked cute, but Emma Stone was exceptionally so wearing a colorful marbleized satiny dress and electric blue patent leather heels. This vivid look has been around the block, but it still has the staying power of true eye candy. Stone’s punchy heels are in stark contrast to the neutral pair of Louboutin’s that Hayden Panettiere wore to the Whaleman Foundation Benefit last week. Though Panettiere’s Barbie flesh patent leather pumps elicited an attraction/repulsion response, my lasting impression is positive. Will extreme neutrality rein for next season?

But She’s Such A Lovely Young Lady

Jena Malone attended the Los Angeles premiere for Tropic Thunder on Monday night dressed in a characteristically jarring ensemble of a black mini t-shirt dress, cinched with what appears to be a vintage leather enamel belt, and completed with a pair of short combat boots. Malone has been cultivating indie queen stature with roles in The Go Getter, Into The Wild and Donnie Darko. Her red carpet persona and aesthetic reflects her quirky brand of beauty. She is not unlike Chloe Sevigny or Samantha Morton in her approach to dressing; Interesting, eclectic, polarizing and often unflattering. Malone appears to be searching for her personal style as her hair color and cuts have run the gamut. About last nights outfit? I can hear moms everywhere saying: “Why is she doing this? Her hair is too short! And those boots? But she’s such a lovely young lady.” Check out other looks Jena has tried on. Which one wins?

Faked Formal

Actress/designer, Tara Subkoff attended a screening of Vicky Cristina Barcelona presented by A Diamond is Forever & The Sherry Council last night looking cute, and unique as usual. She wore a tuxedo trompe l’oeil t-shirt and a perfectly summery mini satin skirt with heels and an elevated fedora type hat. Her red clutch could not have provided a better counterpoint to her monochromatic outfit. These trompe l’oeil t-shirts were popularized in the 1970s and enjoyed a resurgence over the past few years as designer tees took off.

Hudson : A Natural Woman

Singer/actress, Jennifer Hudson was spotted en route to the taping of her appearance on BET’s 106 & Park at BET Studios in Manhattan yesterday. It’s refreshing to see Ms. Hudson in a colorful, casual and youthful outfit after watching her at fancy events in stuffy formal gowns or blandly feminine dresses. It’s great to project a sophisticated and lady-like image, but those of us who became acquainted with Hudson via American Idol, know her to be a playful and original dresser with an edge. She looks great in safe ensembles at premieres and award ceremonies, but where is that flash of risk that set her apart on American Idol? Another floor-length dress with a plunging neckline?

Every girl starts dressing like a woman at some point, but it’s as though Jennifer went from dressing like a 24 year old to a 40 year old within four years. Granted, she rose to stardom at a ridiculously fast rate and what better way to fit in than by dressing accordingly, but I feel as though she hasn’t been true to herself. Hudson seems comfortable in her own skin here. Did her stylist take a day off?  What do you like better: sassy or sophisticated?

Keeping her porcelain skin in tact, Cate Blanchett shielded her face from the harsh UV rays of Southern France while promoting Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull at the 61st Cannes International Film Festival. Note to tan-o-rexics: embrace the pale! It’s chic!

The hat heard round the world! Sarah Jessica Parker wore this Phillip Tracey creation to the world premiere of Sex And The City in London. Even by Carrie standards this hat is a bold statement. Are you feelin’ SJP’s chapeau? Discuss!

Madonna turns out in style as she exits CBS studios in New York City for her appearance on BETs 106th and Park, airing on May 2nd. Hilarity is likely to ensue as hosts Terrence and Rosci plan to do yoga poses and dance moves, before The Material Girl’s critical eye. Madonna’s new video, 4 minutes featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, will also premiere. Ciccone’s look is uptown all the way: savvy, a little tough and, of course glamorous. Her thigh boots, exaggerated gold chains and fur coat beg for a cane and fedora.
