Trophy Hair

Gwyneth Paltrow debuted her shoulder grazing crop at The Prince’s Trust and RBS Celebrate Success Awards on Tuesday. Over the past few years “Paltrow” has almost become synonymous with a cascading mane of golden hair. She could be seen protecting the long swath of blond at the Academy Awards in March.
Recently my friend’s mom said to her; “You really need a haircut, you wear your hair like a trophy”. It takes time, patience and care to keep long hair looking healthy. Why not wear it like a trophy? In Paltrow’s case it also takes a lot of color upkeep, as her hair is double processed blond. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she mentioned that she had Prenatal vitamins to thank for the condition of her enviable locks. Needless to say, I ordered a bottle, as I am sure other women did.
Perhaps a hint of bitterness crept into mom’s “trophy comment” because long hair is usually reserved for the young. As many have noted, a greater number of older women have been wearing their hair “model - long” for the last several years, but as the bob and crop haircuts ushered in by Agyness Deyn, Katie Holmes and Selma Blair are celebrated, the long hair set may be reacting with scissors. Who is next? Check out this lightbox of trophy hair ladies. Can they lose the length and still look great?
