I had the pleasure of attending DIFFA’s Dining By Design 10th Anniversary presented by Elle Decor and GE last evening. Held at the Waterfront Building in New York City, the block long space held beautifully decorated tables by Reed Krakoff, Jason Wu, the evening’s host Elle Décor editor-in-chief Margret Russell and our personal favorite Tracy Stern’s romantic gothic tableau. DJ’ed by Lady Bunny, guests included style deign luminaries Jonathan Adler, Simon Doonan, and Robert Verdi, and actresses Jane Seymour and Leven Rambin.

Frosty Foxy

Wearing a matching bright green turtleneck and eyeshadow , rapper Foxy Brown spoke during a press conference on February 26, 2007 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Brown addressed the reported allegations against her for battery and obstruction of justice in Florida on February 15 stating it was case of “police brutality.” Did anyone notice that this was the same makeup choice for when she was arrested?

Introducing the Michael Ochs Archives

While still in high school, Simon and Garfunkel (under the name Tom and Jerry) recorded “Hey, Schoolgirl” - a top fifty hit in 1958. Like countless musicians before them, their publicity photo was shot by famed photographer James Kriegsmann - who can also take credit for the photo below of yours truly.

Allow me to introduce myself, pleased to meet you, I hope you can guess my name. My company name is the Michael Ochs Archives and it has just been purchased by Getty Images. The photo above is one of the millions of photographs that are in this collection.

I have been passionately in love with music since my childhood. Upon graduating college, I worked as a rock photographer. After which, I was an artist manager, record company publicist, journalist, music consultant for films, disc jockey, and even taught a music history extension course at U.C.L.A.

I have always been an avid record collector and at some point I decided to collect everything that documented popular music - especially photographs. By 1977, I had given up my last day job to start the Michael Ochs Archives, a stock photography agency specializing in photos of musicians.

As every picture tells a story, I have millions of tales to tell; but now is not the time; however, as time and circumstance permits, perhaps I will get to share these stories with you all. For now, I have to pack and move the collection to Getty Images’ L.A. offices.

To be continued…

Pretty Prada

Kerry Washington is no stranger to fashion. The beauty has had more standout looks than film roles at this point. The usually casual Independent Sprit Awards (and after party for the Independent Film Channel) got an injection of Milanese glamour with a Washington’s Prada ivory duchesse satin top tucked into a red gabardine silk high waisted skirt. Chic!

Trend: Crimped Hair

At the spring 2007, Michael Kors had his models parade down the runway with crimped hair pulled back into a bun. Who would have guessed this trend would pick up in Hollywood? Portia di Rossi (pictured) and Jessica Biel both wore this style to the 2007 Oscars. While di Rossi’s sleek ponytail gave balance to the crimped style, most observers were not fans of Biel’s. The jury is still out on this trend but with runway styles influencing the red carpet who knows who else may give this hairdo or don’t a try?

Trend: One-Shouldered Gowns (And Feathers!)

Showing up early did Maggie Gyllenhall good, not only did she get the best full-length shot of the evening (could the color and spacing be any more perfect?), she nailed two trends in one. It seemed like every starlet under the sun wore a one-shouldered gown to the Oscars and the after parties. This style seemed to work on everyone from Cate Blanchett to Sarah Michelle Geller, but a Gyllenhall’s Proenza Schouler satin dress with Venetian glass on the bodice and feather embroidery at hem created multiple fashion trends at once!

Trend: Straight Hair

Just when you thought Gwyneth Paltrow had went all rock mom, last night she let her fans know why she is still fashion’s darling. Wearing a beautiful golden apricot silk tulle and chiffon Zac Posen gown, Paltrow gave her look extra edge by bringing back her long goddess hair that made her famous in the late 90’s. Paltrow was not alone in following this trend, Beyonce (pictured with just a slight curl at the bottom) and Reese Witherspoon following suit. Who had more extensions? “B” or Mrs. Martin?

Trend: Stacked Jewlery

With the influence of more-is-more stylist Rachel Zoe, who styles Anne Hathaway (pictured) and Cameron Diaz, the stacked jewlery trend has overtaken the 2007 Oscars. Jessica Biel and Maggie Gyllenhall gladly oblidged to pile their jewels on as well (but in a more simple manner). This trend was not only made for the young, Catherine Deneuve gave her own brand of throw away-French-chic to her austere ruby and diamond braclets.

Let the Parties Begin!

Marty finally received his Oscar!

And WOW - did I ever miss the show end time. This was the longest one I have ever worked on - ending at 9:18 PM. We are still fast and furiously moving images. It was a truly dynamic night - now on to the parties…

The Show is STILL Going On

Well, my estimate of the show ending at 8:27 has been blown out of the water. It is now 8:40 and we still have several big awards to give!

Jennifer Hudson was overwhelmed with joy at her win, she handled it very gracefully and her performance was outstanding.

The Getty Images editing team is still on fire. So far we have moved over 1,000 photos! We are focusing on deadline to feed clients and then some - we couldn’t ask for a better night.

Party News Flash - Posh Spice, Elton John and Hugh Jackman all went to the Vanity Fair party BEFORE coming to the Oscars!
