Don’t forget! Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 11th. Afterall, we inherited half of our genetic material from this woman. She probably made your bed and taught you how to boil water. If you are lucky, she taught you about the birds and the bees and how to open a beer bottle with your teeth. Maybe you have a love-hate relationship with her. Maybe she is your best friend.
Hollywood mothers are under more scrutiny than yours or mine. They and their children are approached by strangers on a regular basis and they often struggle with whether or not to encourage their kids to go into “the family business”. The offspring of famous mothers struggle with this too, of course. We love it when children follow in their famous mothers footsteps. One more person whose life we can follow! This lightbox celebrates mothers in the public eye. How are you going to celebrate your mother this year, whether or not she is in your life?

This is Madonna’s seventh #1 Debut on the Billboard Charts, with her new album “Hard Candy” which sold close to 280,000. Not a huge debut, but big for today’s music industry decline.
Last week Madonna did a small promotional show in New York’s Roseland Ballroom which I got to attend, an amazing show I must say. No one will argue that she has the best fans in the world, people lined up for that show three days ahead and many traveled from all over the world. True fans like that made her #1 on the charts today.
Hard Candy, which will also become the singer’s fourth-consecutive LP to open on top, following the successes of 2000’s Music (which generated week-one sales of 419,600), 2003’s American Life (241,000) and 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor (350,000). (source vh1.com)

This is the way ALL artists should handle their music. Following the formula of Radiohead, Trent Reznor has decided to give his fans a whole new album for free. Fans can go to nin.com and download the NIN album “The Slip” in a variety of formats from low quality MP3 for your iPod (87 mb file) right through to top quality wav files (1.2 gb file). And you can share them with friends - when you sign in to download the album, you are also invited to send the album to three friends.
At his website, Reznor said, “Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years — this one’s on me.”

Actress Mary Kate Olsen arrives at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy, held at the Metropolitan Museum of art on May 5th, 2008 in New York City. Mary Kate dons gold sequins, looking reminiscent of Shirley Eaton’s gold body paint in the James Bond film ‘Goldfinger’. With the success of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s recently launched fashion lines, one could say everything this mini-mogul touches turns to gold.
Hilary Duff seems to have taken her inspiration not from a Superhero, but rather from the city that has provided a backdrop and home to so many. Duff’s beaded silver dress with Art Deco detailing conjures images of one of Gotham’s most famous buildings, the Chrysler Building.

Actress Piper Perabo arrives at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5, 2008 in New York City. Perabo chooses a graphic black and white dress and wears dramatic crimson lipstick and up-swept mass of curls, not unlike that worn by Elsa Lanchester as the Bride of Frankenstein. Though Frankenstein is a novel, written by Mary Shelley, the character was also incorporated into a line of Comics by Marvel.

Camilla Belle pays homage to Aquaman in an underwater blue layered dress complete with gill like decoration at the shoulder.
Jessica Stam invokes the groovy warrior vibe of Barbarella in a sequined, patchwork Mini dress and a dangerous looking bracelet, very similar to the one worn by Jane Fonda in the 1968 film.

Editor-In-Chief of Vogue Magazine, Anna Wintour attends the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala ‘Superheroes: Fashion And Fantasy’ at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5th in New York City. Wintour takes a chance with a metallic, floor length gown, embellished by structures that resemble Martian appendages. The gamble pays off as she appears inhumanly regal. Rachel Bilson, A diminutive young woman of only 5′1″ carries off a sleek, figure skimming, floor length gown. Her ensemble brings to mind the sexy black liquid costume worn by any personification of Catwoman; from Julie Newmar to Michelle Pfeiffer.

Super couple; designer Zac Posen and actress Kate Mara depart the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5. No one couple embodies the spirit and thematic dedication the way Posen and Mara do, capturing the essence of the superhero in graphic primary colors. The other attendees were no slouches. While the theme for this year seemed jarring in concept, an overwhelming number of celebrities (or their stylists) embraced it with inventiveness. Tilda Swinton evokes super-heroism with a beaded orange badge and wicked hair pouffe. She wears a mask of alien glittery gold. Out of frame, are her perfectly clashing emerald green flats.

Follow this link to the Indiana Jones official site to check out the newest full-length trailer. I’m still holding out on this being totally awesome, but doesn’t it kind of look like Harrison Ford is phoning it in? Maybe they should have pissed off the fans and re-cast the role with Brad Pitt, freeing Ford up for more age-appropriate projects like Space Cowboys 2: The Age-Defying Wormhole.

Hollywood’s quest for the continued infantilization of the American male (see a great New York Times piece on the subject here) has been bolstered by the weekend’s boffo opening for that movie about a rich playboy with a weaponry fetish. Seeking to respond in kind, Marvel Studios is feeling pretty damn confident with their first self-financed production hitting $100 million in three days. So without furthur ado, here is Marvel’s just-announced upcoming slate:
The Incredible Hulk - June 13th, 2008
Iron Man 2 - April 30th, 2010
Thor - June 4th, 2010
The First Avenger: Captain America - May 6, 2011
The Avengers - July 2011
Ant-Man - (writer/director engaged)
I’m sorry, does that say a Thor movie is in the works? Yes. Yes it does. The global warming apocalypse is sounding really good right now.
By the way, that’s Buzz Aldrin in the picture. Behind him, apparently, is Marvel’s retard Frankenstein.

Though we were unaware that the notorious British soul crooner/rehab fan was in the running to record the theme song for the new James Bond movie (the absurdly titled Quantum of Solace), Amy Winehouse has reportedly nixed plans for the song. Her longtime producer, Mark Ronson (also known, by me, as one of the sexiest dudes on the planet) chalked it up to Wino being ‘unfit to record’, but her people are telling the media that Wino herself is unhappy with the song and decided to give it up.
Wino is perfect for a Bond song. This sucks! However, the worst-titled major Hollywood film since What Dreams May Come doesn’t really deserve her.
